Following on from the recent announcement of Yamahaâs return to the South African National Superbike and Supersport Championships, Team Emtek Yamaha is proud to announce their rider line up for the 2013 season.
National Superbike stalwart and magazine editor Robert Portman, who finished sixth in the National Superbike Championship last year, will take on the 2013 National Superbike Championship on board the Yamaha R1. Rob has many years experience at national level on both 600cc and 1 litre bikes, which will prove invaluable to the team as it develops the Yamaha R1 and R6 into race-winning machines. Rob will be partnered in this class by Dylan White who, as a new entrant into National Superbikes, has developed his race prowess campaigning the National Supersport Championship over the last number of years. Dylan finished tenth in that Championship in 2012, after suffering three DNFâs and being forced to miss two rounds of the Championship through injury. Back on a Yamaha, White has his sights firmly set on beating his teammate to the championship title.
The teamâs big hope for the 2013 National Supersport title will be Dean Vos, who will ride the multiple championship winning Yamaha R6 this season. Dean proved his worth during the 2012 season by finishing fifth in the National Supersport Championship, despite suffering from two DNFâs (did not finish) during that season. Deanâs partner in the 600cc class will be the Teamâs ârose amongst the thornsâ, Janine Mitchell. As one the fastest lady riders in South Africa, Janine hopes to show a good few of the âmanneâ that her talent combined with the awesome race craft of the Yamaha R6 are a combination not to be taking lightly. Janine finished the 2012 National Supersport championship in fourteenth position, despite missing three rounds of the championship, so a top ten position in 2013 is definitely in sight for the Johannesburg based rider.
With the first round of the 2013 National Championship taking place at Kyalami on the 23rd February, the riders, together with Emtek Yamahaâs Technical Director Ricky Morias and Team Manager John Mitchell, are hard at work developing and setting up the bikes for their first salvo on the 2013 South African Championships.
It certainly looks like it is going to be a thrilling and exciting year for Team Emtek Yamaha! Donât miss the action!!
